Among Us is an incredibly popular game that requires Crewmates to work together to find the Impostors, people disguised as other Crewmates. The Impostor's job is to stealthily pick off the real Crewmates by traveling through vents and sabotaging different areas of the map.
If Imposters kill too many Crewmates, they win. However, if Crewmates manage to complete all of their tasks or vote out all of the Imposters, then the Crewmates win. The game is more difficult than it seems: Imposters must be talented liars and avoid getting caught and reported. Crewmates must figure out who is innocent and survive.
10 Foolproof: Medbay Scan
If possible, Crewmates should keep an eye on the people who enter the MedBay. Only actual Crewmates are able to scan themselves there, so if a player sees someone else submitting a scan, it would be wise to stick to that person for safety from that point on. There is safety in numbers, after all. This is also a nice way for a Crewmate to prove their own innocence. If they scan in front of other people, they will have at least one person to vouch for them once it is time to vote someone off. Some players choose to save their scan for last in case they are accused of being an Imposter, to tell other players that they can scan themselves in front of everyone else to prove their innocence.
9 Fail: Reliance On Vents
Like any other mode of transportation, vents come with a price. While this allows players to get to other parts of the map quickly, perceptive Crewmates may ask how the Imposter got from point A to point B so fast. Worst case scenario, people may see Impostors venting, which is a difficult accusation to deflect. Crewmates can sometimes see Imposters vent from another room. For example, if an Impostor vents in The Skeld's decontamination room, a Crewmate would be able to see that from the locker room right next to it. Once seen, Impostors may be forced to make a kill. But that may sometimes be impossible since killing has a cooldown timer that freezes once an Impostor enters a vent.
8 Foolproof: Keep Tabs On Everyone's Location
There are different ways to determine where the other players are. The Skeld has cameras in different parts of the map. Both Impostors and Crewmates are able to view the footage to determine who is alone or to even see something incriminating. Some people go to Admin to view which room each crew member is in, and the Communications Doorlog is another way to see who has recently gone through a specific part of the map. These are useful tools for people who find it particularly difficult to believe the claims of other people in the game.
7 Fail: Talking Too Much
At some point in the game, all of the players will convene after holding an emergency meeting or after reporting a body. During this time, players will point fingers, defend themselves, or pass on voting due to a lack of evidence. Remember that everything said and done will be considered suspicious. Talking too much or rushing to defend themselves will only make players look more like Impostors.
On the other hand, remaining silent is another perceived indicator of being guilty. Try to find something meaningful to contribute to the discussion, and always respond when addressed by someone else.
6 Foolproof: Take Advantage Of Teamwork
Impostors always know who their partners in crime are, so they have an easier time working together. Although it is sometimes difficult to pull off, Impostors have been known to quickly finish a game by taking advantage of double kills, eliminating two crew members at once. They can also agree on certain points that would make a Crewmate look guilty, or even vouch for each other. It is in their best interest to keep each other alive to increase their chances of winning, so they should try not to throw each other under the bus.
5 Fail: Relying Too Much On Others
Sabotages will occur often during a game, especially if Crewmates are up against good Impostors. Impostors can sabotage the reactor, oxygen, communications, and the lights. Crewmates must always respond to these sabotages as quickly as possible, especially sabotaged reactors and oxygen. These two come with a timer, and if time runs out, it's an instant game over for Crewmates.
Not responding leaves Crewmates vulnerable to an attack. If a Crewmate sees another person in front of the sabotaged area, they should attempt to fix it anyway. There is a possibility of putting faith in an Impostor, who is only standing there to watch the countdown to their victory.
4 Foolproof: Pile Up On Each Other
Crewmate players have been utilizing the strategy of standing on top of each other. As long as they know that they are legitimate Crewmates, multiple Crewmates can safely hide behind another. When an Impostor comes along, all they will see is a single, vulnerable Crewmate. Once the Impostor swoops in to attack, they will immediately notice the people hiding behind the body, who will immediately report. This will work as long as the Impostor doesn't sabotage part of the map, and it is one of the funniest ways to catch an Impostor in the act.
3 Fail: Making Too Specific Accusations
An Impostor should always avoid making specific accusations. Saying that they saw someone else vent or kill another person will only encourage the Crewmates to throw out the accuser in the next round of voting. Instead, Impostors should make subtle hints, giving reasons as to why another player's actions are suspicious.
One example is to say that it was suspicious for Red to be near a body without reporting it. The Impostor knows Red didn't do it, but because Red did not report quickly enough, Red became a nice scapegoat for the real Impostor.
2 Foolproof: Group Kills
An efficient way of getting away with a kill in plain sight is for an Impostor to sabotage the electrical system. This lures a large group of Crewmates into one dark room, and with the electrical panel in their faces, it will be almost impossible for them to see who killed who. The larger the group, the less likely the Impostor will get caught. However, the Impostor must avoid doing this repeatedly with the same group, as Crewmates will pay more attention to those around them after this kind of kill has happened once.
1 Fail: Reporting In Electrical
An innocent Crewmate may stumble across a body in the electrical room after a sabotage. They may see no one there but report it anyway, fearful of being seen by another person out of context. However, without someone to blame, being alone in a dark room with a victim will get the Crewmate blamed instantly. When lacking vision and entering electrical, it is better for Crewmates to travel with another Crewmate, to avoid any wrongful accusations. Remember: reporting a body won't always make others think that the reporter is innocent.
