Among Us Turned Into Cheesy Sitcom In Hilarious Fan Video
YouTube channel Laugh Over Life has turned Among Us into a cheesy sitcom, complete with cliches, romantic tropes, and an overused laugh track.
InnerSloth's Among Us has spawned thousands of memes, fan tributes, and homages across the internet, but the storytellers over at YouTube's Laugh Over Life have taken it a step further, in a full 11-minute sitcom parody of the game, complete with all the sitcom tropes: love triangles, cheesy characters, and a fully-utilized laugh track. So far, there's proven to be no shortage of creativity to be found among these many tributes, which range between cake models, jaw-dropping 3D renders, and everything in between.
Among Us' sudden surge in popularity from a relatively unknown indie title to the darling of the gaming world is certainly the stuff dreams are made of for indie developers. Its massive success thanks to this instant internet popularity is a story that even AAA developers could only ever hope to emulate. While it's seen a couple hiccups along the way that were masterfully managed by the tiny team at InnerSloth, its momentum has shown no sign of slowing. If anything, with the release of its newest map early next year, it seems to actually be picking up speed.
To that end, the developer can partially thank the fan tributes that continue to roll out in earnest. In one of the funniest yet, comedy YouTubers Laugh Over Life have taken the fad a step further by producing a sitcom parody of the game that focuses less on gameplay and more on how the actual players interact. There's an archetype for each crewmate, from the affectionate everyman to the swaggering de facto leader to the bumbling but loveable oaf, all of who attempt to finish their tasks while trying to solve the mystery of the Impostor before they're all picked off. Their discourse is familiar to anyone who's played Among Us, except this version has a laugh track.
Unsurprisingly, Laugh Over Life has also created a similarly poignant reality show version of the series (with four episodes so far), but the sitcom version injects some extra humor and satire that makes it a much funnier parody. With any luck, this version will be the first of a series; considering that the video has already amassed around 70,000 views in the hours since its release makes it seem likely that viewers can expect more of this subseries in the near future.
With the COVID-19 pandemic still on full throttle and people's holidays affected by the resultant lockdowns, positive distractions are becoming more and more of a necessity than a luxury. Among Us has been a great way for players to stay connected as well as entertained, but Laugh Over Life, true to its name, is giving players more to laugh about.
