How Among Us Switch Launch Affected The Airship Map

The Airship map in Among Us is finally arriving at the end of March. For fans who've been waiting for the new map, the Airship can't come soon enough. However, according to developer InnerSloth, Among Us' Switch launch affected the Airship map's release. Here's why.

Among Us arrived on Switch right around the same time that the Airship map was announced at The Game Awards 2020. While the Switch version of the game was playable soon after an announcement was made, the Airship has taken a bit longer to get into Among Us. It's been over three months since the reveal trailer at The Game Awards, and some fans were growing concerned the new map was going to be delayed.

Fortunately, that's not the cause. The Airship's release date has been confirmed as coming to Among Us on March 31st, 2021. It will feature new rooms, new tasks, and all sorts of fun features for players to find. While confirming the Airship map's release date, developer InnerSloth also shared a dev post detailing why the Airship map took so long to release, and how the studio went about getting it out before the end of March.

In a dev post, InnerSloth shared that porting Among Us to the Nintendo Switch is one of the reasons the Airship map took a while to release. The studio, which is only comprised of five people, was working on getting the Switch port out. Then, once the Switch version was available, it meant yet another platform to get the new map into. According to the post, InnerSloth knew the Airship "would have messed with the Switch launch, so we hard stopped to improve Switch launch."

Even after this, the devs needed approval on those platforms - and to get the map ready for numerous mobile versions, Among Us on PC, and the new Nintendo Switch port. All of this took time, of course, especially for such a small indie studio. Ultimately, though, the Switch port was one of the contributing factors to why Among Us' Airship map took so long to release.

Now, for many eager fans, the wait is thankfully nearly over, and a whole new audience is able to experience the wonders of Among Us thanks to the port on Nintendo Switch. The Airship map will release on the Switch - and all other platforms where Among Us is available - on March 31st, 2021.
