Among Us is the smash-hit that's taken the gaming world by storm, and spawned countless memes in the process. The title puts a unique spin on an imposter game, and it's even attracted the likes of U.S. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

Despite being fairly complex Among Us focuses on quick matches, meaning a party can fit a lot in with just a couple hours of time. As players are going from match to match, however, they might notice that some take longer to start than others.

While some players jump right into a new lobby, others might take a good 30 seconds or so to rejoin. There's an underlying reason, however, and it's not just players not paying attention.

Among Us costs $5 to purchase on Steam, but the game is free-to-play on mobile devices. That comes with a caveat, of course, as players have to deal with ads in between matches. These ads last roughly 30-seconds each, but players can pay a $2 fee in order to remove them. It's obviously a small amount, but Among Us' overwhelming success has attracted a ton of new players just testing it out. With crossplay player are going to run into a good amount of mobile players that need to sit through those ads, before they can rejoin the lobby. There is, unfortunately, no way to avoid the wait in matchmaking, but if players form private games with friends there'll be no waiting. As time goes on more players will likely pay the fee to do away with ads, or those that haven't paid will start to drop off and move onto other games.
