Players have found a way to play the new Among Us map early. The map was revealed at The Game Awards earlier this month. It is called The Airship, and it pays homage to Innersloth's choose your own adventure game series, Henry Stickmin. The map is set for a proper release sometime in early 2021.

It's hard to overstate the popularity of Among Us. The social deduction game casts players as a spaceship crew tasked with a series of menial chores to complete, and with identifying and casting out the Impostors hiding amongst their ranks and picking them off one by one. Even though the game was released in 2018, it really hit its stride in 2020; so much so that the developers ported the game to Nintendo Switch earlier this week. This is by all accounts an excellent move for the developers, and is sure to make a lot of fans both of Among Us and of the Switch very happy.

But it also comes with some unexpected side effects. As reported by Polygon, some players have discovered an unusual exploit in the Switch version of Among Us. Switch players can actually sneak into the new map and try it early. All they need to do is open a local game, select the Airship as the map, then close that game and open an online one with the same settings. Once they do that, they'll be able to play on the Airship all they like and learn everything they want to know about the new map.

Becoming intimately familiar with the new map could give players a huge advantage when it actually launches. The Airship comes with a wealth of new tasks and rooms for players to get used to as they either avoid or commit gruesome murder. When it's officially added to the game next year, fans are sure to flock to it in droves. After all, Among Us won best multiplayer game at the Game Awards this month, beating out icons like Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The game has a huge player base, and the new map is all but guaranteed to draw them in.

It's amazing how much of an impact this game has had this year. The game had a miniscule player base when it launched in 2018, and now it's one of the most important games of 2020. It's good to see the developers reacting so positively to this huge swell of fame by implementing new maps. This glitch basically lets dedicated Among Us fans peek at their Christmas present early, and as unfortunate as that is from a developer standpoint, hopefully the fans are getting a lot of enjoyment out of it.
