Among Us There’s More to Cosmetics Than You Think
Among Us has a pretty robust set of cosmetic options, so you can look stylish while you're trying to slaughter an entire ship's crew.

Any real gamer knows that the mark of a good game lies within the cosmetic selection menu. Among Us is no exception. In Among Us, players are either innocent Crewmates or nefarious Imposters. The goal of Crewmates is to repair the ramshackled ship or remove the Imposter from the group. The Imposter's goal is to slaughter everyone on board the vessel via any means necessary. Although the game's premise is relatively simple, the overall gameplay is surprisingly tense and exciting.
Among Us has more cosmetics than you can shake a stick at, offering players a whole wardrobe of hats, colors and shirts for players to express themselves with. While the cosmetics largely offer no tactical advantage whatsoever, Among Us players know that you should at least look good before your untimely demise. These cosmetics allow players to express their individuality and maybe even blend into a crowd in the right situations.

Upon joining a lobby full of potential Crewmates, players have the opportunity to customize their character. These items range from serious to silly, so players are free to tell their own stories with their cosmetics. Maybe the player is an ace detective who's been investigating cases of entire crews disappearing? Or perhaps the player is just an average blue-collar worker who was promised good pay and decent insurance. The possibilities are endless. Regardless of what a player chooses, it's fun to mix and match different hats and shirts to create your own backstory before the inevitable slaughter begins.
A fun way to try and use cosmetics to your advantage is to get other players to wear the same outfit as you. For example, if a player convinces others to all wear the "egg" hat, they'll subconsciously believe that they're a team together. This pseudo "group mentality" could be used to your advantage as both a Crewmate and an Imposter. If a player is part of a cosmetic group and someone accuses you, the other players who are wearing the same item will likely defend you. This is because, psychologically, people feel the need to defend the group they're a part of. However, this is a double-edged sword as you could unknowingly be defending an Imposter who's in on your cosmetic group.

This is great for Imposters because it serves as a partial defense from baseless accusations. This leaves you free to go around killing all the other players who aren't part of your cosmetic gang. Of course, it all falls apart when you have to betray your teammates eventually.
Cosmetics in Among Us don't just have to be "cosmetic." They can help create your character's in-depth backstory or a camouflage through herd mentality. So next time you're customizing your character, maybe think twice before putting on that alien head.
