Players need to make sure they are picking a name which won't make other players immediately antagonistic towards them - nothing is worse than being kicked out an airlock in Among Us just because other players are irritated at someone's name. They also need to make sure they aren't picking a name which makes them immediately sound suspicious or untrustworthy. Players who walk around with the Among Us name Red and the Among Us color blue, for instance, aren't really giving other players a chance to wonder whether or not they'll be lied to.

However, names in Among Us don't really matter - at least, during gameplay. This is because Crewmates often just call each other out by their color in Among Us' Emergency Meetings instead, saying things like "Red is sus" and "No I was doing a task black is sus they were following me." This kind of quick communication is the most common way Among Us players refer to each other, especially since many players choose unpronounceable or slightly offensive names.

Even so, names in Among Us are important for one very specific reason - the name of the host of any given Among Us session is what that game's lobby is described as in the public lobby search bar. This means that if a player's name is "Mitchell," for instance, the name of the lobby other players can see and join is also "Mitchell."
