Among Us Not Getting a Sequel is GREAT News Heres Why
Among Us is a smash hit thanks to Twitch, but Innersloth has canceled the sequel. Fans should still take heart, as the game will only get better.

Just over a month ago, game developer Innsersloth announced a sequel to their surprise hit Among Us. Fast forward to today: Innersloth has canned Among Us 2, the sequel to their online game of social deduction.
The move might seem strange, except that Innserloth also announced they would instead reinvest in the skyrocketing success of the original. That makes sense for Innersloth, whose other games include Dig 2 China and The Henry Stickmin Collection, as they watch their numbers continue to soar.

Fans have even more to look forward to now. Innersloth has pledged to continue creating content for the game. Much of that will be content planned for the now-canceled sequel. Unfortunately for the developers, this also means going back into the core code and rebuilding the game's foundation, which they say "is so outdated" that it cannot support that much new content. In the long run, this will undoubtedly be a benefit to fans who will experience improved servers, colorblind support, a new friends system and more new maps, including a Henry Stickmin board.
Among Us has proven to be a surprise hit in 2020. Part of this is because the game's structure plays well on live streams, as players plot and vote against each other Survivor-style. However, the game did not enjoy instant success. Among Us released in 2018 on Steam, and only recently has it become massively popular. As recently as December of 2019, the game had declining sales, but by February, something had changed. Gamers were seeking something new to play remotely with friends during quarantine discovered Among Us, resulting in more than 87% growth in downloads that month.

Starting in Korea and then spreading slowly to places like Brazil and Mexico, Among Us had become a certified hit by August, showing an increase of nearly 800%, according to SteamCharts. Much of that growth has been fueled by Twitch live streams, where Among Us has taken over as the #1 streamed game. Social deduction games have already become increasingly popular in the last ten years, with card-based games like Secret Hitler and Ultimate Werewolf making their way into family gatherings and game parties. Among Us took this trend and ran with it, quickly becoming a surprise hit.
Now for Among Us fans, the game has even more life, as they'll be getting new updates rather than being required to buy a new game. It remains to be seen how long it will be before these updates to be made available, but the future of Among Us is looking bright.
