Among Us Player Finds Smash Bros Melee Easter Egg On Airship
Among Us players are discovering Easter eggs in the new Airship map, including a reference to Super Smash Bros. Melee, although there's more to it.

Popular sleuthing game Among Us is apparently hiding a few Easter eggs in its maps, as one player discovered when they stumbled across what looks like a reference to Super Smash Bros Melee on the newest Airship map. Hanging from the northern wall of the Vault is an image of one of Melee's most infamous levels, although the reference isn't quite as straightforward as it seems.
The new Airship map in Among Us is the biggest and most complex map in the game to date, and as a result, offered the developers the opportunity to hide pop culture references, or Easter eggs, in various spots throughout. It's given Crewmates something else to do if they've managed to complete their tasks before being offed by the Impostor(s), and it didn't take long after the Airship finally took off for Crewmates to start spotting them. A few have posted their discoveries on Twitter, but the Easter eggs are more to do with InnerSloth's other property than they really are with the games they reference.
Twitter user PJiggles, for one, discovered a painting on the northern wall of the Airship's Vault room that Super Smash Bros. Melee's fans will recognize as the game's final unlockable arena, aptly titled "Final Destination." But fans of the Newgrounds-born classic point-and-click series Henry Stickmin will recognize it more as an homage to the original series that the Airship map was based off of, particularly Infiltrating the Airship and the Vault, which in both games contains a number of Easter eggs to discover. This includes the "Derp Scout" meme from Team Fortress 2, an energy sword from Halo, the Golden Gun from GoldenEye, and, of course, the painting of Melee's Final Destination level.

More accurately, according to Stickmin creator Marcus Bromander, aka PuffballsUnited, the picture is a reference to to the "No Items, Fox Only, Final Destination" meme, although it is suspiciously bereft of foxes. It's not exactly surprising that Among Us would incorporate elements from Henry Stickmin into its newest map, nor is it the first time it's happened, because Bromander is also one of the founding members of InnerSloth. So the eggs aren't necessarily about referencing games that most players will almost instantly recognize: it's more about tying the two properties together, ostensibly in a single universe, and hopefully raising awareness about the Henry Stickmin Collection, which didn't have the surprise success that Among Us did.
Anyone who's unfamiliar with the Henry Stickmin series and would like to correct this is in luck, as InnerSloth has remastered the series and made it available for $14.99 on Steam. It's a must for any true Among Us fan who wants to learn more about where the creators of this iconic indie game got their start.
