An Instagram user has found a bizarre way to cosplay multiple Among Us characters at the same time. The social deduction game has taken the internet by storm despite being largely ignored when it released in 2018. The game has reached such incredible amounts of popularity that the developer cancelled a sequel to focus up on developing the current game. Among Us, like the similarly explosive Fall Guys before it, owes much of its success to its adorable, minimally designed characters. The astronauts in Among Us are small, beanlike creatures, decked out like Skittles in bright primary colors. Like in Fall Guys, players can purchase cosmetic accessories for their astronaut, including hats, and even little pets that can follow them around. While players are mostly interested in Amo

Innersloth is officially adding in a Sheriff role to Among Us, and it could be a bit different from the fan-created role mods that have appeared.

How Among Us New Sheriff Role Could Be Different From Mods

In the past six months, countless mods have arrived in Among Us, the social deduction game from Innersloth that's become a huge part of pop culture. One of the most popular fan-created mods is the Sheriff role, but now Innersloth has announced it will be adding in an official version of this role soon. Here's how the official Sheriff role may be different from the mods.

The Summer Game Fest 2021 trailer for Among Us showed off a lot of exciting new features, including teasing a fifth map. The trailer also revealed new roles would be coming to the game, although only Scientist and Sheriff were confirmed. Modded roles have become wildly popular in Among Us, so it's perhaps not too surprising that Innersloth is going to add in a few official ones of its own. However, the trailer didn't really elaborate on how these new roles will work.

Presumably, the Sheriff role will work in a similar fashion to the way the role mod has already. The Sheriff mod in Among Us allows a player assigned that role to shoot a crewmate they believe to be the Impostor. If they're right, then the crewmates win the game; however, if they're wrong, then the Sheriff dies as well. It's a high risk and high rewards mechanic that would definitely be welcome in an official capacity, but Innersloth's Sheriff may not work exactly like the mod does.

Why (& How) Innersloth's Sheriff Role May Be Different

How Among Us New Sheriff Role Could Be Different From Mods

In the popular modded version, Sheriffs typically only have one shot. Innersloth may increase the amount of bullets a Sheriff has, or it may take away this feature completely. The gameplay footage of the Sheriff from the Summer Game Fest trailer didn't show the player with any specific weapons, so it's always possible the role is more aligned to deduction aspects, like examining a murder scene or being able to see clues, rather than a more vigilante-type approach.

It's also possible Innersloth will take away such a steep penalty for shooting the wrong player. While only having one choice amps up the tension in Among Us, it may discourage some players from trying out the new role. However, there will need to be some sort of penalty or limit introduced to Sheriffs, in order to keep those players assigned the role from simply running into a round with guns blazing. So, it's certainly possible the Sheriff will function more like a Detective role in Among Us, searching for clues and trying to track down the Impostor with a new set of special abilities.

So far, it's hard to predict exactly how much the official Sheriff role in Among Us will compare to the modded versions. However, it's fairly likely the two versions will be similar in at least a few capacities, even if Innersloth makes a few changes.
