Why Among Us Needs More Official Roles
Roles in Among Us are very popular, and there are countless unofficial mods out there. But it's time for InnerSloth to add more official roles too.

Since its launch in 2018, the core gameplay mechanics in Among Us haven't changed all that much. Developer InnerSloth updates the game regularly, but content updates focus on bringing new maps to the game (which often involved new tasks as well). The roles in Among Us remain the same: Impostors try to kill everyone else, and the crewmates perform tasks and try to figure out who the Impostors really are. Now, it's time for InnerSloth to add more official roles to Among Us.
The most recent update for Among Us added the Quickchat feature, and the new Airship map is set to release sometime in 2021. The new map will include some new rooms and tasks, but the roles seemingly will remain unchanged. There's still an Impostor (or more) and there are still crewmates. This has proven to be a great premise, which is why Among Us has become so popular, but it's starting to feel a little stale.
This is most evident by the large number of mods that add roles to Among Us. While mods in Among Us aren't required to have fun, they do offer more variety in terms of gameplay. Modded roles like Sheriff and Doctor have proven especially popular, and the number of fan-made roles being modded for the game continue to rise. This is indicative of just how in-demand more roles are, and it's one of the reasons why InnerSloth should add more official roles to Among Us.
Why More Roles Could Make Among Us More Fun

There's a seemingly endless supply of Among Us roles for modders to add, but eventually the amount of role mods will plateau. Roles have proven to be popular for the game, though, and it's surprising that InnerSloth hasn't taken advantage of this by introducing more official roles into Among Us already.
Admittedly, this could alter Among Us' core gameplay mechanics quite a bit, which may be why InnerSloth is hesitant about changing the game too much. Still, additional roles could be a part of a completely different game mode. Players who want classic Among Us can still enjoy it, but a new game mode could feature some of Among Us' more popular modded roles.
A similar approach was used by Town of Salem, the social deduction game where many of these new role mods in Among Us were borrowed from. InnerSloth could very realistically take the same route and use a new game mode to introduce more official roles into Among Us. It'd be a great way to shake up gameplay and keep the game feeling new.
