Among Us Beta Updates Make Both Impostors & Crewmates Jobs Easier

The Steam beta of viral hit party game Among Us has been updated, simultaneously making some parts of the game easier for both crewmates and impostors. The update is the first of likely many more changes coming to the game, after developer Innersloth scrapped an Among Us sequel in favor of adding new features to the current game.

Following the unexpected boost of new players the game got months back, Innersloth announced it was cancelling a planned sequel to capitalize and improve on Among Us' newfound popularity. At the time, the studio did not outline what these potential changes to Among Us were on the way, but beta players are now noticing subtle differences in the game after the latest update.

Eurogamer reports that the latest update quietly made changes that could make finding the impostors harder. Now, beta players have the option to make their votes anonymous and leave other players unable see who they voted for, making it a bit harder to find potential impostors. The other big change, and perhaps the biggest one so far, is that the task bar can be changed to only appear during meetings or not appear at all. With this change, impostors can easily lie about how many tasks are left and cause additional confusion and stress for unsuspecting crewmates.

Another gameplay change that was added and should theoretically make the game easier for some players: colorblind support. The "Wires" task now includes shapes on the different wires, so those who are colorblind will have an easier time successfully completing the task. In a game that relies heavily on being able to identify different colors, colorblind players were at a disadvantage, so this addition is definitely a welcome one.

The hype surrounding Among Us shows no real sign of slowing down, so doing what it can to maintain and improve the game is a very smart move by Innersloth. These beta changes, should they make it into the stable release, are sure to increase the chaos and bring new dynamics to the hit game. And, even if they do not make it out of the beta stage, these changes are sure to be far from the only ones Innersloth make to the game, so if players do not see a change the like, it is worth hoping that it could turn up sooner or later. One thing to note however is that the Among Us beta is only available for PC players on Steam, so mobile players will just have to wait and see if these changes make it to the official game.
